Abstract

Drive and driven members (1,2) are interconnected by intermediate element portions (3a, 3b) in a torsionally stiff manner through yielding joints (4,7), e.g. of tensile plate links, which accommodate axial, parallel and angular shaft offsets. An additional element (12) surrounds the intermediate element portion (3a): at one end these two elements are secured together rigidly and at the other end they have a frictional connection permitting relative rotary motion between a friction facing (11) and a rubbing surface (17) on a flange (15). The additional element has a substantially greater torsional stiffness than the intermediate element so that torsional vibrations occurring in the region of the critical speed of rotation are damped by the frictional connection. This can then prevent over- loading of the articulated connections by the forces arising with the vibrations. <IMAGE>
