Abstract

The invention relates to a recuperative heat exchanger comprising an elongate body of ceramic material having outwardly extending chambers 2, 3 extending along the axis of the body, alternate chambers extending further towards the surface of the body and further towards the axis of the body respectively, the chambers extending further towards the surface being referred to as the first group of chambers 2 and the chambers extending further towards the axis being referred to as the second group of chambers 3, inlet and outlet openings being provided for the first group at the ends of the body or at the outside surface of the body at or adjacent its ends, and inlet and outlet openings for the second group of chambers being provided at or adjacent the ends of the body towards the axis thereof or at the ends of the body. The exchanger is made by machining a body which has been extruded from a tapering passage defined between die members 16, 24, and in which is located core members 18. <IMAGE>
