Abstract

A finger-pressure responsive control comprises a resilient elongate block (211) electrically conductive foam material to the opposite ends of which are applied respective electrical contacts (212, 213) across which a voltage is applied to set up a potential gradient along the length of the block. At least one strip-like contact (216) extends the length of the block so that finger pressure applied to the control at a particular location lengthwise of the block causes the potential at that location to appear as an output at the strip-like contact. Also disclosed is control circuitry for controlling an electrical device which includes user operable, finger pressure responsive controls for producing analogue outputs proportional to the finger pressure on each control and circuitry for controlling the speed of, and length of operation of an electric motor in dependence upon the analogue outputs from the controls. <IMAGE>
