Abstract

201,340. Cotton, A. June 12, 1922. Water-tube boilers.-In a Stirling-type boiler, the lower drum 7 is connected by an up-flow tubebank A, which has a small number of rows of tubes and is arranged in the furnace chamber, to a front upper drum 1 and by a second upflow tube-bank B heated by convection to an upper drum 3, and downcomer tubes C lead from the drum 3 directly into the lower drum. The cross-sectional area of the tubes in the bank A is less than that of the tubes in the bank B. A baffle 9 placed behind the bank A directs the gases upwardly, and a baffle 10 placed between the banks B, C directs the gases downwardly through the bank B and upwardly through the bank C. The upper drums are connected directly by steam and water tubes 2a 2. The feed-water is heated in a tube-bank D connected to an upper drum 4 and to the drum 7, either directly or through a second lower drum. The steam is taken off either from the drum 4 or from the drum 3.
