Abstract
Maritime wireless communication apparatus uses vertically spaced antennas (VSAs) 10_1, 10_2, to provide frequency and space diversity gain via the aggregation of carriers for multiband transmission and reception, thereby overcoming the attenuation of reception performance attributable to maritime wireless channel characteristics. The apparatus includes a modulation unit 110, which modulates input signals to baseband signals, transmission units 120_1, 120_2, which convert the baseband signals into wireless frequency signals corresponding to specific frequencies, and gain calculation units 130_1, 130_2, which calculate weights for respective frequencies based on the specific frequencies at which the corresponding transmission units 120_1, 120_2 desire to perform transmission and based on information about a location of a ship. The transmission units 120_1, 120_2 adjust the output intensity of the wireless frequency signals based on the weights for respective frequencies and then communicate resulting signals via the VSAs 10_1, 10_2. The communicating may comprise calculating weights for respective antennas corresponding to respective heights of the antennas.
