Abstract

A mobile communications network having one or more base stations configured to provide a low bandwidth communications interface formed from a low bandwidth carrier 32 and to provide a high bandwidth communications interface formed from a high bandwidth carrier 30. The mobile communications network includes a load balancing entity 50 which is configured to monitor the data communicated by communications terminals to or from the low bandwidth interface 52 and the data communicated by communications terminals to or from the high bandwidth interface and, consequent upon first predetermined conditions being satisfied, to command one of the communications terminals to detach from the high bandwidth interface and to reattach to the low bandwidth interface for communicating data to or receiving data from the mobile communications network via the low bandwidth carrier 32. Accordingly, communications resources of the mobile communications network which are allocated for the low bandwidth interface may be used more efficiently.
