Abstract

An electrochemical sensor for detecting one or more biomarkers for tuberculosis in the breath; which may form part of an apparatus for detecting the biomarkers comprising a housing for the electrochemical sensor, a receiver configured to allow passage for the breath into the housing, and a reader for displaying the results produced by the electrochemical sensor. Also described is a method for manufacturing the sensor comprising applying a first ink to a substrate, drying the first ink to form a working electrode, applying a second ink to the substrate, drying the second ink to form a reference electrode, and creating electrical connections; and a method of manufacturing an apparatus comprising anchoring the sensor in a housing connecting a receiver to the housing and connecting a reader to the sensor. Also disclosed is a method of diagnosing tuberculosis comprising exposing the sensor to breath, applying a potential, measuring a current generated, processing the measured current to determine the concentration of one or more biomarkers for tuberculosis and determining whether tuberculosis is present. Finally a breath testing kit and the general use of the sensor are disclosed.
