Abstract

201,102. Silverthorn, R. P. Dec. 18, 1922. Mechanical and like toys. - A kite " messenger " comprises a hollow block adapted to slide up the kite string and enclosing a slidable rod provided with an angular slot for the retention of the ring by which a parachute or other suitable elevating device is secured. The device consists of an elongated hollow rectangular block 4 to which are attached screw eyes 5 that slide on the kite string 2. A rod 6 slides within the block 4, its movement being limited by a stop pin 7. A ring 11, secured to the cord 10 of a toy parachute, is passed through an opening 12 in the wall of the block and is engaged in an angular slot 13 in the rod 6. The parachute carries the device up the string 2 of the kite. until the rod 6 strikes a bumping-plate 3 secured on the string. The rod is thus caused to slide into the block and the slot 13 releases the parachute.
