Abstract

A decorative article comprises at least one layer of natural shell material 5 bonded to at least one fibrous reinforcing layer 8 embedded in a translucent synthetic resin matrix 7,9. An optional resin layer 6 is provided when it is desired to embed the shell layer 5 in the matrix as well. In a method of producing such an article at least four layers 5,7,8,9 are successively applied to a mould (not shown), and the resin layer 7,9 are caused or allowed to set to form the matrix. The shells may be bivalves. <IMAGE>
