Abstract

Pressure filter for dewatering sludges, for example sewage sludges, has two endless filter belts 1, 6 between which the sludge is pressed after initial gravity filtration where belt 1 runs over sieve 2. To prevent the exhausted water from being reabsorbed by the sludge layer, at least one additional large roller 13 wrapped by the belts from below is disposed between the large head roller 11 and the small pressure rollers 14, 15 and between the or each two large rollers there is disposed at least one smaller intermediate roller 12 wrapped by the belts from above. The large rollers and the smaller intermediate roller are arranged so that the angle of wrap for each of the large rollers is at least 180 DEG and so that only short, substantially vertical free sections of the belts remain between the large rollers and the smaller intermediate roller. Rollers 11, 13 have axial surface grooves possibly formed in detachable covers, for drainage of water sideways. <IMAGE>
