Rotary distributors; contacts.- In a rotary distributor of the type in which a rotating contact member contacts successively with a number of relatively fixed contacts a steady contact is assured by arranging the rotary contact member to form polar projections of a magnetized member, the fixed contacts being of magnetic material and by their attraction preventing faulty contact due to the rebound and consequent vibration of the fixed contacts when engaged by the movable contact-member at high speeds. The fixed contacts 31 are mounted on flat springs 33 secured by insulated terminal screws 41 around a metal casing 5 which is provided with a timing arm 12 and a retaining spring 8. The rotary member consists of a flanged non-magnetic sleeve 14, 21 mounted on the timing shaft 13 to which is secured by screws 25 of magnetic material two permanent magnets 22, 23 separated by an insulating ring 24 and provided with projecting pole pieces 26, 27 the tips of which act as contact surfaces. The projections 26, 27 are of opposite polarity, the gap in the magnetic circuit formed by the members 22, 23 and the screws 25 being composted by the fixed contacts 31 as they are in turn engaged by the rotary contact member to complete the respective ignition circuits. The insulating ring 24 projects beyond the periphery of the magnets 22 23 to prevent the contacts 31 from engaging portions of the magnets other than the projecting tips 26, 27, and in order to prevent wear due to the rubbing of the fixed contacts on the ring 24 rigid non- magnetic arms 40 are secured below the contactcarrying springs 33 so that the contacts 31 are normally clear of the insulating ring 24.
