Abstract

A vehicle suspension unit comprises an outer cylinder (1), an inner cylinder (2), a piston (3) working in the inner cylinder and a piston rod (4) which extends through a seal (7) at one end of the outer cylinder. To lubricate the seal when the vehicle is not in motion the inner cylinder has a one-way valve (11, 13) which retains damping liquid in a space (12) between the cylinders, and a capillary passageway (10) is provided which can draw damping liquid from the space past the seal. <IMAGE>
