Abstract

For providing a digital output from a displacement transducer operating in a measurement cycle in which the transducer may not always return to the same initial position at the end of each cycle, giving rise to a zero error, the apparatus described has an analogue to digital converter 32, a first counter 38 for storing the digital value of the initial position of the transducer, a latch 40 for storing the measurement position value, a comparator 42 for comparing the two values, and a source of clock pulses 50 to index the counter 38 until both values are equal, a second counter 54 counting the number of clock pulses required and providing a digital output of the true measurement value. <IMAGE>
