Abstract

In a vehicle disc brake two pairs of friction pad assemblies 9, 10; 11, 12 are adapted to be applied simultaneously to the respective inboard and outboard faces of each of a pair of relatively fixed, axially spaced, rotatable discs 1, 2 by means of an actuator assembly, which comprises a pair of first and second clamp assemblies 13, 17 which are relatively movable axially, and an actuator 23, 24 for moving the clamp assemblies 13, 17. The clamp assembly 13 is arranged to apply pad assemblies 9 and 11 to the inboard faces of the discs 1, 2 and the clamp assembly 17 is arranged to apply pad assemblies 10 and 12 to the outboard faces of the discs 1, 2. The actuator may be hydraulic (Figures 1-4) or mechanical (Figures 5-7). <IMAGE>
