Abstract

Angular position of an object is determined by scanning an image of the object B and comparing the scanned data with stored data of a reference object GR. For a given radius, a set of circular scans is effected for different relative angular positions of the object image and reference object and for each scan the object image and reference object data are cross-correlated and integrated about the scanning circle. The correlation integral with the absolute extreme value gives the actual angular position of the object. The procedure may be repeated for different radii. Stores GSp and RSp for the object and reference object data are connected to multiplier M and integrator I and the data are recalled and the correlation controlled by correlation control circuit KSt, the extreme integral value being selected by stores Sp1 and Sp2 for the computed integrals and an associated comparator D3. <IMAGE>
