Abstract

The invention relates to a cylinder for a piston compressor. In contradistinction to known forms of construction of compressor, having valves which lie obliquely of the cylinder axis, these compressors consisting of three parts - viz. a centre part defining the cylinder bore, and end parts defining tapering compression spaces the cylinder according to the invention only consists of two substantially similar halves 10, 12 which are interconnected by tie bars 14, are centred by a cylindrical sleeve 48, forming the cylinder bore for the piston and are sealed off inwardly and outwardly, in respect of their coolant spaces 26, 28 which are open towards the dividing plane, by two O- rings 24. The symmetry of the cylinder halves 10, 12 results in identical structural rigidity of the halves and high structural rigidity for the cylinder as a whole. <IMAGE>
