Abstract

A detachable side shift device for use with the load-handling carriage (20) of a raising and lowering mast comprises a plate (10) adapted to be quickly connected to or disconnected from the carriage (20) by means of hook formations (18) and adjustable hooks (24) and a plate 12 adapted to mount ancillary equipment such as a fork lift unit. The two plates are connected by slideway structure (32, 34) and a hydraulic ram (36) for effecting side shift. The device is so constructed that, in the presence of the device, the ancillary equipment is located forwardly only to a small extent compared with its location when attached directly to the carriage (20) thereby avoiding a large increase in moment loading. <IMAGE>
