Abstract

Relative rotation is effected between the die 1 and mandrel 2 of a die head for the extrusion of a pipe or blown tubular film of (plastics) materials, so that the material flowing to the die head outlet 1a is given a component of motion in a direction substantially perpendicular to that in which it extrudes from the outlet 1a. Either one of the die 1 on mandrel 2 may be rotated with the other fixed; the rotation may be continuous or oscillating; and mixing pins 5, 6, may be provided on the die 1 and/or the mandrel 2. The relative rotation improves the uniformity of flow of the material, and provides non-axial orientation in the extruded tube. <IMAGE>
