Abstract

A control signal generating device, e.g. for controlling the movements of a television camera, has a universally pivoted joystick (1) which carries a hemispherical baffle (6) concentric with the lever fulcrum (F) which moves between aligned pairs of diffuse light sources (12, 13; 14, 15) and photoelectric sensors (8, 9; 10, 11) mounted in mutually perpendicular planes in a light-tight housing (7), thereby avoiding electrical connections to the lever or any pivoted parts. The electrical output signals of the photoelectric sensors may be combined electrically to provide outputs representative of the angular position of the joystick. <IMAGE>
