Abstract

Apparatus for supplying a coherent curtain of cooling water to hot metal strip comprises an elongate header tank 3, a nozzle 9 with an inlet which has a greater cross-sectional area than its outlet, the inlet of the nozzle being within the tank and the outlet being outside of the header or in a slot in the wall of the header tank, and a duct 21 located within the header tank and extending parallel to the nozzle inlet, the duct being slotted along its length. A further tube 23 is provided for supplying water to the duct. The inlet and the outlet are both generally rectangular in cross- section with the inlet having the greater cross-sectional area. <IMAGE>
