Abstract

The installation comprises a leak- tight pressure vessel connected to a steam supply, to a supply of water under pressure and to a vacuum pump, turntables for accumulating filled packages of food products within the pressure vessel, a tunnel connected to the pressure vessel by means of a package- transfer control valve, means for transferring filled packages to be sterilized from the tunnel to the turntables and transferring sterilized packages from the turntables to the tunnel, a hermetic sealing device and a discharge conveyor belt. The installation makes it possible to fill packages with food products without any need to add juices or salt water and permits sterilization prior to closure of the packages. An installation of the above type is shown in Figure 1 and consists of a pressure vessel 1 provided with a turntable 23, tunnel 2, control valve 3 and chamber 4 which is provided with a package closing device 113. <IMAGE>
