Abstract
A method of controlling blast furnace operations by controlling one or more operating variables of the blast furnace in response to calculations based on a process model in which the burden of the furnace is assumed to be divided into a plurality of horizontal zones in which predetermined reactions proceed uniformly, and wherein the future rates of the reactions and hence a future zone temperature are calculated from data obtained from current operation of the blast furnace, and changing one or more of the operating variables to control the operating temperature according to an equation the parameters of which include the difference between a target temperature of the blast furnace burden in a particular zone and the predicted future temperature. The blast furnace operating variables are particularly blast oil rate, blast moisture, blast oxygen rate, blast rate, blast temperature and coke/ore ratio.
