Abstract

In the magnetic recording of a SECAM color television signal, the luminance signal is modulated in angle, while the frequency of the chrominance signal is converted to a predetermined lower frequency band through frequency division means solely or in combination with frequency conversion and recorded on a recording medium after having been superposed on the angular modulated luminance signal at a low band thereof. For reproduction, the luminance signal modulated in angle and the chrominance signal having frequency stepped down to the lower band are separated from the reproduced signal. The separated luminance signal is demodulated to obtain the reproduced luminance signal, while the separated chrominance signal is restored to the original frequency through frequency multiplier means solely or in combination with frequency conversion means and mixed to the reproduced luminance signal, thereby to produce the original SECAM system color television signal. By utilizing azimuth angle, high density recording such as guard-bandless recording can be attained. <IMAGE>
