Abstract

A drive comprises a first element (12) constrained to be rectilinearly reciprocatable and a member (10) which is rigidly fixed to a pivotable second element and which is pivotable by the first element (12) to impart arcuate reciprocatory motion to the second element. The arrangement is such that the arcuate motion has a maximum amplitude (- alpha ) - to one side of a notional line extending perpendicularly to the line of action of the rectilinear motion and through the axis of the arcuate motion - which is greater than the maximum amplitude (+ alpha ) thereof to the respective opposite side of the notional line. <IMAGE>
