Abstract

A tubular insert (2) for use in an assembly for mounting a part (14) onto a base member (24) is adapted for receipt in a mounting hole in the part (14). A fastener (20), such as a bolt or machine screw, may then be inserted through the insert in the mounting hole for attachment to the base member. The insert has at least one annular groove (4) in the external surface (6) and when it is subjected to axial compression by the fastener, the insert collapses uniformly in an axial direction to absorb a substantial amount of the total compressive load exerted upon tightening of the fastener. <IMAGE>
