Abstract

A reciprocating-piston engine including a crankcase split in a first plane (4) level with the crankshaft bearings (3) into an upper portion (1) and a lower portion (2). At least one of the bearings is provided with a thrust washer (6). In order to facilitate accurate and secure assembly of the or each thrust washer without the use of adhesives or the like, the or each thrust washer is diametrically split in a second plane (7) and its or their two parts are inserted into the crankcase so that the first (4) and the second (7) planes include an angle alpha of less than 90 DEG . As a result of this arrangement each of the two parts of the or each washer will engage the same portion of the crankcase so that they can easily be pre-assembled in one of the portions prior to the other one being bolted thereto. <IMAGE>
