Abstract

Compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> wherein R is C1-4 alkyl; R<1> and R<2> independently are hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl or R<1> and R<2> together are C3-5 alkylene which may be interrupted by O, S or an amino group; and R<3> is H or p-toluoyl, may be prepared by reacting a compound II <IMAGE> where R<4> is alkyl or phenyl, with ammonia or an amine HNR<1>R<2> to form (I) wherein R<3> is hydrogen, optionally followed by toluoylation. The compounds I are intermediates for the preparation of pharmaceutically and agriculturally active compounds.
