Abstract

Perforations in a well casing are sealed by injecting into the casing a carrying liquid containing ball sealers, these ball sealers having a density less than that of the carrying liquid and being of a size to plug the perforations. The liquid is injected at a matrix flow rate less than that which would fracture the formation surrounding the casing and at a velocity sufficient to overcome the buoyance of the ball sealers so as to transport them downward so as to seat on the perforations. In this way formation strata can be sequentially treated by the temporary closing of perforations in the well casing during the treatment.
