Abstract

A gantry crane for ships has a crane boom (4) mounted on the gantry (1) for rotary and translatory movement. Load suspension means (8) are provided at one end of the boom (4) and are constituted by a rotary traverse. An impulsively working load coupling (5) is suspended from the rotary traverse by means of load ropes (6) and a guy rope system (7) is provided for adjusting the horizontal position of the coupling (5). The crane boom (4) is pivotable intermediate its ends for adjusting the load suspension means (8) vertically to compensate for the up and down movement of the ship due to sea swell. <IMAGE>
