Abstract

Hot air dryers which exhaust hot moist air tend to cause condensation in the room in which they are housed. The Specification describes a tumble dryer for clothes which has a rotatable drum 42. Hot, moist air is extracted by a fan 54 to one half 58 of a heat pipe device 56. Here the air is cooled and moisture condensed out before recirculation back to the drum 42 over an annular heater 50. Preferably a major proportion of the air by-passes the heat pipe device through an opening 59. The other half 60 of the heat pipe device is cooled by ambient air propelled by a fan 62. Alternatively, in a drying cabinet, a stationary enclosure is provided for the clothes, through which heated air is passed upwardly. The moisture in a proportion of the air is again condensed in an air-cooled heat pipe device before recirculation. <IMAGE>
