Abstract

A power-assisted steering unit comprising control means responsive to the torque exerted on the steering wheel and assisting power means e.g. an electric motor whose actuation is controlled by the control means when the torque becomes equal to or greater than a given threshold. It also comprises a device adapted to prevent any actuation of the assisting power means when the vehicle is subjected to a side acceleration equal to or greater than a given value corresponding to the vehicle travelling along a curve at a speed such that a turning torque is imposed on the steering wheel less than said threshold.
