Abstract

A method of scanning and electronically processing thermal pictures which employs a row of infra- red detector elements and a polar method of scanning. Light emitting diodes are used to produce a visual image of a scanned field of view. Electrical signals from the detector elements are amplified individually and applied to respective light emitting diodes. Additionally, the detector elements are formed into groups and the signals from all elements in a group are applied to an associated summing amplifier. The summing amplifiers have smaller bandwidths than the individual amplifiers and a gain which is varied in accordance with the scanning. The output signals from the summing amplifier are applied to respective groups of light emitting diodes. <IMAGE>
