Abstract
Water-soluble alkali metal or ammonium compounds are added to slurries of nickeliferous oxide ores which are acid leached e.g. with sulfuric acid at temperatures between about 230 DEG and about 300 DEG C. The alkali metal or ammonium compound additions improve the handling characteristics of the slurry, nickel recoveries, settling rates and compaction rates and lower scaling rates.
