Abstract

A cylinder liner is cut from tubular stock and a cylinder body is cast around it. The liner and body are made from the same lightweight metal (e.g. aluminium, aluminium alloys or magnesium alloys) and during casting the outer surface portion of the liner melts to form a coherent and integral cylinder. Casting may be high pressure die-casting and a defect free lining is provided. The resulting cylinders are useful as master or slave cylinders of motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
