Abstract

A pre-coat composition or a back-coating composition applied to the carpet backing contains an organo-phosphorus compound having a molecular weight below 1000 and containing one to four pentevalent phosphorus atoms. In a preferred process the organo-phosphorus compound contains at least one cross-linkable group and the pre-coat or back-coating composition also contains a cross-linking substance, which is capable of cross-linking by a subsequent heat treatment with two or more molecules of the organo-phosphorus compound. The prior art processes of impregnation in an ordinary bath have not been suitable for pile carpets since the pile threads stick together to an intolerable extent.
