Abstract
199,736. Schmid, A. June 22, 1922, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Carbon electrodes, making; gas batteries; gases supplied; electrodes.-A gas electrode which may be used in galvanic batteries or in electrolytic processes such as the production of hydrochloric acid is hollow and is made of a permeable conducting substance such as carbon through which the gas is forced from the interior to the exterior which is in contact with the electrolyte. The electrode may be coated or impregnated with a catalytic substance such as a metal of the platinum group. This may be done by depositing platinum, for example, on the electrode from a platinum salt solution, or by coating or impregnating the electrode with a substance containing a platinum salt, with or without a reducing substance and applying heat. Catalysts may also be added to the gas which is conducted into the electrode.
