Abstract

199,698. Menier, G. June 21, 1922, [Convention date]. Seat adjustments.-Cushioned seats for vehicles of the kind that are normally downwardly inclined towards the back, are pivotally mounted on the frame so that the rear end can be raised to assist the occupant in rising, and subsequently return to its normal position. The means for raising the seat may consist of compressed air from a container 8, Fig. 1, admitted by a valve 7 operated by the occupant to a bellows 5 or to a cylinder containing a piston. The seat is returned by opening the bellows or cylinder to the atmosphere. Another device consists of a lazy-tongs 9 actuated to lift the seat by the cable 10 and returned by the spring 13. Other devices described comprise a system of levers and a pinion-and-rack actuated by a pawl-and-ratchet which is operated by the occupant of the seat through a cable. In the latter device, the seat is returned to its normal position by a spring when the holding detents are disengaged.
