Protectors, securing.- Attachable soles c, Fig. 2, and heels are formed with holes d, to receive a series of groove-headed screws b<1>, or spring clips k<2>, Fig. 7, on a plate k, attached to a permanent sole a. In the case of the screws the. attachable sole is retained by a continuous spring wire e, Fig. 1, engaging the grooves in the heads of all the screws. In case of unequal wear, heel parts i, Fig. 6, are made with curved inside edges so as to be reversible and fit the outside curve of the heel. The wire e may fit outside the screws or inside, and may be straight or curved. The springs clips k<2> are engaged by a single plate m, Fig. 9, attached to the removable sole or heel. It is also stated in the Provisional Specification that springs may be hinged to the screws or plate and engage opposite members like safety pins, and that a similar result by this means is also obtained by the use of an auxiliary plate on which the spring rests inside the treads, and the said auxiliaries may have suitable extensions, thereby lessening the spring. Also the spring or springs for holding the treads may engage in pockets or holes made in the soles or heels and with or without plates or screws across the treads and engaging in the pockets or recesses.
