Abstract

199,052. Meter, J. W. van. Dec. 12, 1921. Chlorine.-An apparatus for use in the application of chlorine and chlorine water in water purification, the preparation of dyes, bleaches, and laundry preparations and other purposes comprises an upper chamber adapted to receive a continuous supply of liquid, which is then fed to a lower transparent vessel in which is disposed a second transparent vessel, open at the bottom, graduated and having a 'bleeder port for the passage of chlorine to the outer vessel. In the production of chlorine water, water is continuously delivered to the upper chamber, while if dry chlorine is required, kerosene may be used. Figs. 3 and 4 show sections of the apparatus at right angles to each other. Liquid is sprayed into the chamber 16 in a hollow casting 6 by means of a hose 24 fitted to a passage 23 passing through the tubular member 17. The liquid is fed by the tubes 21, 22 to a lower transparent vessel 13 screwed into a collar 11 with flange 12 against a rubber gasket 14, the collar being held in position by lugs 8, 9. A supply tube 35 delivers chlorine to a passage 26 and thence to a transparent funnel-shaped graduated vessel 29 with a bleeder port 31. The liquid and chlorine pass out of the apparatus together by the tube 41. In operation,. the apparatus is first filled with liquid the level cf which is observed in a sight bulb provided in the chlorine supply tube 35. The chlorine valve is then opened and the depression of the liquid level observed measures the pressure of chlorine delivery, from which the rate of flow of chlorine may be deduced, knowing the size of the aper. ture 31.
