Abstract

198,264. Wicksteed, C. Aug. 2, 1922. Cutting slices in succession.- In a bread-cutting and buttering machine, the loaf is fed along a trough B between a fixed side and an adjustable, resilient, bifurcated plate A, which is secured to the trough at the end remote from the knife and is advanced towards the fixed side, at the free end, by a knurled-headed screw L. The plate A is connected to a spring-returned yoke E, having limbs E<3>, E<4> which project into the trough. The screw L bears on the yoke E and is mounted in a yoke K, which is carried by plate springs K<3>, K<4>, secured to the trough B. The knife cuts towards the plate A, and the. springs K<3>, K<4> do not yield with the ordinary cutting pressure. The loaf is fed by a screw F, and the feeding-member projects through the slot H and the bifurcated plate A. A coiled spring or gravity-controlled devices, such as a weighted lever carrying the yoke K, may replace the flat springs K<3>, K<4>.
