Dynamos, driving.-A lighting dynamo which also supplies ignition current fcr an internalcombustion engine has an armature shaft coaxial with the driving shaft and is provided with two clutch devices arranged to couple the armature shaft directly with the engine shaft when running and, a,t starting, to couple these shafts through step-up gearing. Fig. 1 shows a double-sided friction disc h rotatable with the driving shaft a and adapted to drive either the friction dise k on the armature shaft h or the friction disc i on the loose gear-wheel g, thus rotating the armature through gearing g - - d. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which a one-way clutch, Fig. 4, is used for the direct drive and a gear-wheel g is slidable on the shaft a, being placed in engagement with a gear-wheel f by a member 24 and disengaged by a centrifugal clutch 28. A spring-pressed ball 26 serves to hold the gear g in position. One of the gear-wheels is preferably flexibly mounted to prevent damage to the gears by back-firing. In a further modification, sun-and-planet gearing is used, the gearing being rendered inoperative by permitting the sun wheel to rotate.
