Abstract

195,116. Collins, W. G., and Cambridge & Paul Instrument Co., Ltd. Nov. 11, 1921. Recording-apparatus.-A method of and apparatus for obtaining a record of the movements of an object whose motion is small and rapid such as the varying pressure in a high speed engine consists in causing a fine stylus with rounded point actuated by the said object to indent a plastically deformable material in such a manner that no material is removed but the recording surface only of the material is caused to flow, forming a groove bounded on each side by two raised portions of the material. The recording medium is preferably a film of thin celluloid and the graph produced is well suited to magnification by its being subsequently optically projected. The method of recording may be used for ascertaining the movements of bridges or other structures or the movements of the inertia mass of seismographs. Specification 174,377 is referred to.
