Fluid-actuated valves. -A fluid-actuated valve device adapted to close a conduit when the difference between the pressure or suction in the conduit and the pressure of the external medium falls below a predetermined minimum and particularly applicable to vacuum milking apparatus comprises a valve-member loaded to close by a spring or weight but held open after an initial manual opening by a plate or diaphragm subject to conduit pressure or suction and atmospheric pressure. A piston valve-member 4 co-operating with a side port 3 is normally held in the open position against the action of a spring 7 by a plate 5 pressed against a seat 6 by the suction in the conduit. In a modification, a diaphragm replaces the plate 5 and the ports in the valve-member are used in place of the port 3. When working with superatmospheric pressures the plate 5 is reversed. In the form shown in Fig. 4, a lift-valve member 4 is connected to member 11, prevented from rotating by pins 15 and normally held against a seat 12a by suction communicated through a passage 14 in the valve-member. The plate or diaphragm may be arranged to actuate a plug-cock or pistonvalve through a lever-mechanism. The valve spindle may be fitted with a bayonet catch to hold the valve in the open position.
