Abstract

Grates; baffles; combustion chambers, secondary; air, supplying.-A furnace comprises, in combination, a rearwardly and downwardly inclined grate 2 composed of a series of open-topped troughs 3 of gradually diminishing section from front to back, which support a series of interlocking, downwardly and forwardly inclined fire-bars 4, a secondary combustion chamber 9, a passage 10 to convey hot air to the products of combustion on their way to the chamber 9, and a baffle chamber 12 having projections 13 of lozenge-shape on its walls 14. The crown 6, above which is the chamber 9, is more or less parallel to the gratesurface, and a narrow space 8 is provided between the crown 6 and the wall 7 at the rear of the grate. Air is supplied under pressure to the grate through the passage 5. Inspection &c. doors are provided at 16, 17, 18.
