Abstract

17,690. British Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Co., [Assignees of Smith, B. H.]. Dec. 29, 1914, [Convention date]. [Addition to 10,130/15.] Electrically-tripped switches; protective devices. -The tripping electromagnet described in the parent Specification, which has two magnetic circuits, one provided with a main winding energized from the circuit to be protected, and the other with an auxiliary winding which controls the effect of the main windings and is itself controlled by a relay, is provided with a two-part core member, one part 43 of which is actuated on excessive overloads but does not trip the circuit-breaker, and the other part 44 actuates the trip, being operated in response to the relay. In this way, the actuation of the circuit-breaker solely by excessive current passing through its windings, without any action of the relay, is avoided. The two parts are connected together by a spring 45, the lower part being fixed to the tripping-rod 47, and the npper part loosely mounted round it.
