Abstract

Linear-dimension gauges for determining the requisite degree of inflation of pneumatic tyres have scales 19, 21 for giving the distorted and undistorted diameters for various sizes of tyre. The arms 11, 12 are pivoted and shaped so as to overlap when closed, Fig. 2, and a stop 18 is provided for the slide 13. In operation, the gauge is applied at a point remote from the ground, and the reading on the scale 19 is noted; the slide is then moved until this reading is obtained upon the scale 21, and the gauge is applied to the tyre at the point of maximum deformation to test whether the tyre is inflated to the required extent.
