Moulds; patterns; moulding processes.-In casting articles such as window frames, a pattern consisting of separate bars is employed, the bars being withdrawn endways from the one-part flask after moulding. When the glazing-apertures are large, blocks e are placed in the flask during ramming, but are removed before pouring to reduce the amount of sand and permit contraction without warping. The bars pass through openings in the flask, and one set of transverse bars b<1> passes through openings in the other set b<2>, both sets passing through the side bars b, each of which butts upon the adjacent bar at one end as shown at f. The openings in the flask are plugged after the withdrawal of the pattern. The side bars are deeper than the bars b', which again are deeper than the bars b<1>.
