Abstract

9950. Lumsden, T. July 8. Disk and wheel apparatus. -Relates to toolgrinding machines of the type comprising a grinding-wheel and a turntable carrying the tool to be ground, and wherein the turntable and tool can be moved up to the grinding-wheel or, alternatively, the grinding-wheel can be moved up to the tool, and comprises a copying-arrangement for grinding tools in the form of non-circular disks, such as are used for cutting out the interior of shell bases. The turntable a carries, in brackets b and by means of trunnions d, a barrel e in which is mounted a spindle f, having at one end a handwheel or other means for rotating it and carrying at the other end the former h and the tool j to be ground. The barrel is arranged to slide laterally in its bearings under the influence of a weight or spring to keep the former in contact with a guide k, which is carried by an arm m on one of the brackets b and is disposed with its edge in the plane of the face of the grinding-wheel. The invention may be used in combination with that described in Specification 22,317/14.
