[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Variable-speed chain gearing.-In a change-speed gear for motor-cycles &c., a sleeve 7 rotatably mounted in a support 4 fixed to the vehicle frame carries sprocket-wheels 11, 13, which are arranged to be driven respectively from the motor and the pedal crank-axle, and the motion of the sleeve is transmitted by either one or the other clutch 17, 18 to a wheel 20 or wheel 19, whereby the road wheel is driven by either of two chains. For controlling the clutches, the sleeves 14 are recessed to receive balls 41 and parts 39, 40, 42 which are moved in one or the other direction by levers 31, 32 actuated by a lever 25 and a spring 38. The levers 31, 32 are mounted at 33, 34 upon a fixed piece 23 and are connected by a link 28, which is slotted at 27 to receive a bolt 26 upon the lever 25.
