Abstract

3430. Franklin, W. J. March 3. Combinations of interdependent vadves.-A device for interconnecting two valves by means of gearing, particularly applicable for use with geysers, is so arranged that the water valve is opened prior to the gas valves and, after the gas valve has been fully opened, can be still further opened without affecting the gas valve. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the spindle of the screw-down water valve b is fitted with a toothed segment e adapted to engage a similar segment d on the spindle of the gas plug cock a. When the gas cock is fully opened, the segments are disengaged by the axial movement of the spindle c. In a modification, two plug cocks are connected by two bevel-gears adapted to disengage after a certain angular movement. In the form shown in Fig. 9, the gas cock a has a doubleacting plate cam m arranged to engage a pin j on the spindle of a piston or slide-valve controlling the water supply. A plate cam may be used in place of the face-cam, and a lift valve may be used in place of one of the plug cocks.
